Professional Practitioners at People House
Whose Responsibility Is It?
People House takes great care in selecting the professionals offering services in the healing arts here at People House. We want to make it clear that everyone offering services at People House is an independent contractor and/or business and therefore is to be held solely and totally responsible to all who make use of their services. This includes all ministers, professionals, and anyone using People House space for any and all activities. People House, while feeling secure in having these educators and healers available to you, is not to be held responsible for problems that may result in the carrying out of their services to you. Additionally, since each person is considered a distinct and independent "business," no practitioner at People House is to be held responsible for problems that may result with another practitioner or for any problems that may result in relationship to People House. Ultimately, of course, we feel that it is YOU who are responsible for the choices you make of who and what method you may choose for your education and healing process. We trust your inner wisdom to lead you in the right direction.
Our practitioners conduct their practice of healing, education and/or growth according to the ethics and guidelines of their particular field. In addition, they maintain a belief in the wisdom of the individual that is in harmony with the basic People House philosophy. Please see each description for details and phone numbers. All practitioners maintain their own schedules. Contact them directly for information about groups, workshops or personal appointments.

People House Practitioners
I work with individuals, couples and groups, assisting in your process of finding solutions and making decisions, while respecting your inner wisdom and personal/group /team agenda. Listening without judgment, staying in the present-moment, and being open and accepting is at the heart of helping individuals and groups find their way out of the quicksand. This method of facilitation isn't "group think" or therapy, but rather a very honoring and amazingly effective approach to getting you back on track. In addition, I teach the Facilitator Training (FT) Course at People House and facilitate the FT Alumni Process Group for FT graduates; along with other groups and classes. Please call or email for more information or to make an appointment.
My passion is supporting clients in creating a life of vitality and meaning, as uniquely defined by each person. I offer individuals and couples tools to address: an out-of-balance life, anxiety, grief and depression, relationship and communication challenges, and emotional eating. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Nationally Certified Counselor with Master's degrees in Clinical Counseling and Sociology. I use evidence-based ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) for increasing psychological flexibility; Psych-K to re-write limiting subconscious beliefs; and the Enneagram to create greater self-understanding and self-acceptance. I have experience and training working with Latino and LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning) communities. Call me if you truly want to create change in yourself, relationships and life. Visa/Mastercard.
I am a licensed professional counselor with 30 years of experience as a therapist, counselor educator, and clinical supervisor. I believe that individuals, couples, and families attempt to resolve problems based on how they understand and experience them in their daily lives. Therapy is a collaborative process, consisting of hopeful, honest and at times difficult conversations that assist clients to experience their problems in a way that promotes opportunities for insight, change, growth, and healing. My integrated clinical model allows clients to resolve thoughts, feelings, life experiences, body sensations, and spiritual beliefs that keep problems active and viable in their lives. I specialize in working with individuals, couples and families who have been impacted by traumatic events and life-threatening illnesses.

Counseling is a dynamic, creative response to living. We seek relatedness with another person as a response to pain and loss or the longing for joy. Whether you're nursing a faint voice of hope for change or anger for something different, we can explore together in an experimental way. Bring your experience, trauma, limitations, stories and dreams and we will sort them together and experience new possibilities. Stephen has recently completed a Masters in Counseling with Regis University, is currently training in Applied Existential Psychotherapy with Boulder Psychotherapy Institute and has extensive experience in business in Human Relations Management.

Sometimes life forces us to make changes. Maybe it's in the form of a devastating injury, a break up, the loss of a loved one, or getting fired from a job. You can no longer relate to your old life in the same way and in order to move forward you have to create a new way of being in the world. Making that transition requires courage to redefine who you are, compassion and insight into who you were and any losses you faced, and renewed enthusiasm to discover what life still has to offer you. My goal is to support and guide you in each of those steps. Call or email for a free consultation.
I believe that we all possess the resources to improve our life situation and I would like the opportunity to help you tap into yours. I work one on one with adults who desire counseling for various issues and challenges including depression, anxiety, stress, life transitions and more. Is it a problem or is it an opportunity? Sometimes what can feel like a problem is really an opportunity for growth and a call to a richer experience of life. Maybe that's why the symbol for opportunity is imbedded in the Chinese word for crisis. With compassion as our guide, I help individuals navigate their depression, anxiety, or life transitions by learning new ways of relating to the problems that all of us encounter. A practicing Buddhist with an M.S. in Pastoral Counseling, I am also trained to also help those individuals who wish to bring their spirituality into the therapeutic process for greater depth and meaning.

Desire, ask, believe, receive. – Stella Terrill Mann Every action and manifestation is born from a thought. Anxiety, stress, fears and phobias are often the culprits subconsciously inhibiting our choices and freedom. Though they may be rooted in something that was once useful, when they no longer serve us, it's time to let them go. Our minds carry the solutions to our problems. Hypnosis is one of the most effective tools to override what limits you. Change your thoughts, and change your life. Each client comes with a unique set of needs and skills. We will work together to create new thought patterns and behaviors that serve your authentic goals. Tools I use are hypnosis, hypnotic EMDR, writing and art therapy, and mindfulness training.
Why do we suffer? How can we stop hurting? As a Centering Facilitator, I help people discover their own truth and live from a place of joy and connection. I facilitate Work It! A Weekly Experience of the Work of Byron Katie every Monday evening at People House. The Work is a simple, elegant and powerful process of inquiring into painful thoughts that are at the root of our suffering. Come and experience the freedom and peace that unfolds when you dissolve the painful stories that have kept you trapped, anxious and small. As a Certified Martha Beck Life Coach I use many pro-active, spiritual, creative, fun, simple and surprisingly effective tools to help you uncover your essential self and live a satisfying and authentic life.

I am a body-oriented, mindfulness based, transpersonal counselor with a collaborative, strengths-based approach to therapy. I'm committed to providing supportive, yet challenging experiential counseling that both draws in what we want in life (meaning, personal power, joy, creative expression) while allowing a space to let go of what we no longer need (self-limiting beliefs, trauma, grief, anxiety). I have experience and training in Gestalt & art therapies, relationship counseling, grief, trauma & PTSD, addictions, sexuality, dreamwork, hospice care, shamanism & spiritual alchemy, spiritual emergencies, and personal/spiritual development. I have a Masters Degree in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology from Naropa University and I am the Director of Aspenroots Counseling LLC, a counseling center with locations in both Denver and Boulder. I work with individuals, couples, families and teens. Initial consultation free.
My passion in life is to help individuals find peace, find meaning, and thrive! I believe that personal growth, balance, and healing are within everyone's reach. I have over 10 years of experience in the mental health field and specialize in working with individuals and couples who have experienced anxiety, substance abuse, trauma, unhealthy anger, depression, grief and loss. My approach to therapy is collaborative and holistic: by attending to the relational, physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects within us all, healing can occur and meaning can be found. Every person carries an innate desire for balance and wellness in their life. They also carry the ability to achieve these goals. I am dedicated to assisting you in this process. In an open and honest manner, I will work with you to find the answers to questions surrounding relationships, sadness and day to day intentional living. I will work with clients to find the answers to questions surrounding relationships, sadness and day to day intentional living. I believe the mind, body and spirit work in unison and negative emotions such as depression, anger, guilt and low self-esteem are some of the harmful toxins that can manifest themselves. These items can have ill effects on the body. I feel therapy is a teamwork process that stimulates the enhancement of personal strengths and empowerment to aid in reaching personal goals. I have 10 years experience working with victims during the initial stages of their crisis. I understand the impact of trauma as well as its long-term effects. Contact me for a consultation. When we reach age 50, we can look at our past knowing that we are not the same person we were 20 years ago, only 20 years older. We are wiser, possess greater perspective and are able to make better life choices. I enjoy helping people see how the second half of life can be a time to create exciting and rewarding experiences, using the courage and wisdom that their earlier years have given them. I have facilitated workshops at People House and given talks to many community groups. I enjoy writing and my book, Keep Your Fork-Dessert Is On The Way: Savoring the Second Half of Life will be available spring of 2013.

Like Carl Rogers, I believe that we can begin to change after accepting ourselves for who we are, and I incorporate a variety of theories into the therapeutic process to help do that. Listening, Collaboration and Creativity are three useful allies in discovering our own health and strength. Using them, as when making music, we can explore our present relationship to our Self, to others, and to the direction of our lives. After several years of studying music, sociology and philosophy, I am currently working toward a Master's degree in Counseling at the University of Colorado Denver, and work with people to explore how they are feeling, how they would like to be feeling, and how they can work to align with a life that feels meaningful and whole.

What are the core beliefs that shape you? How are these beliefs revealed through patterns of thinking, feeling, and relating? Often, the messages we receive early in life - about ourselves, others, and the world - shape our present-moment experience, in ways both adaptive and self-limiting. Rafia is trained in the Hakomi method of psychotherapy, a gentle, mindfulness-based form of counseling that honors the wisdom of these core beliefs, while opening the door to fuller, freer ways of being. Rafia enjoys working with clients from diverse backgrounds and has experience working with depression, anxiety/panic, self-esteem, grief and loss, relationship issues, and spirituality.
